Porsche retains Lotterer & Wehrlein for 2022 Formula E season
The Porsche Formula E team has announced it has retained André Lotterer and Pascal Wehrlein for next season.
Porsche made its debut in the all-electric series in 2020, finishing eighth in the teams’ championship with Neel Jani and Lotterer in the car.
Wehrlein was drafted in from Mahindra for 2021 but the team remains in eighth going into the finale in Berlin this weekend.
The German took pole at the Puebla ePrix and crossed the finish line first, before being disqualified after his team failed to declare his tyres.
Lotterer had to wait until the second Valencia E-Prix to get off the mark but has found his form in recent rounds, scoring points in three of the last four races.
Speaking of the announcement, Porsche’s head of Formula E operations, Amiel Lindesay, said: “We’ve made enormous progress as a team this season. Andre and Pascal have made a significant contribution to this positive development. We’re pleased that we are continuing our successful path together in season eight.”
“Despite some notable successes this season, we are yet to achieve all of our goals. That makes me all the more pleased that Porsche is giving me the chance to contribute to the further development of the team beyond the current season,” Lotterer added.
Wehrlein concluded: “As a newcomer to the team, I felt very welcome and comfortable from the get-go. We achieved a lot in our first season together and have firmly established ourselves in Formula E. I’m very happy that I can be a part of this great team in the future.”
