Trident crowned 2021 F3 teams’ champions as Doohan wins Sochi finale
Trident has beaten Prema to the 2021 Formula 3 teams’ title after a 1-3 finish in the final race of the season at the Sochi Autodrom.
Jack Doohan secured an impressive victory in Russia to ensure he ended the season as runner-up to Dennis Hauger in the drivers’ championship.
The Italian team was on for a comfortable 1-2 finish in Sochi as Clement Novalak ran just behind Doohan at the front of the field.
With the teams’ championship on the line, Trident ordered its drivers to hold position after Hauger was spun around by Oliver Rasmussen.
Despite the team orders, Doohan and Novalak battled for the win with the Australian ultimately coming out on top.
With the pair duelling for position, this allowed Frederik Vesti to close up and get past Novalak for second with two laps remaining.
Novalak’s loss of position proved to be inconsequential as it was enough to see Trident topple Prema in the teams’ championship.
Doohan claimed the victory and protested his innocence over team radio with regards to the team orders, while Vesti and Novalak joined him on the podium.
Novalak’s rostrum appearance secured him third in the championship behind Hauger and Doohan.
It was another strong race from Logan Sargeant who finished fourth for Charouz.
Jak Crawford overtook Johnathan Hoggard on the final lap for fifth, while Arthur Leclerc was the highest Prema in seventh.
Victor Martins, Ayumu Iwasa and Olli Caldwell rounded out the top 10 in Sochi.
